Lavender

Habitually Chic

Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2011

Every year at New York Fashion week, designers select pantone colours for their spring collection.
This spring 2011, they have cleverly combined complementary colours, those that are opposite on the colour wheel and have created a striking intensity to the palette.

We all know the Pantone colour of the year is Honeysuckle, but I'm loving the Lavender - Coral Rose combination ...

Have a great Monday!

Graphics ...

I love the way this beveled mirror sits in the centre of the trompe l'oeil fretwork in this dining room.

Girly ...

{Image via Bijou and Boheme}

This is such a girly/feminine ... can't wait for spring image.
I am in love with the outfit, especially the polka dot tights and black wedges.

A busy week for me, with many more to follow.
I am hopefully going to see Black Swan this weekend, going to a design workshop,
hanging out with my family

... and celebrating my birthday!

Happy weekend everyone.

Beautiful object ...

Just came across this sea urchin sculpture by Oly while flicking through Elle Decor.
I've always been fascinated by sea urchins and this one seems to have drawn me into its world.

Continuing on with the fabric theme ...

I am in love with this sumptuous jacquard velvet, geometric design

Lamp obsession ...

I've been a little lamp obsessed the past week ...
I have been searching for the perfect lamp for my husbands study (birthday present) and finally decided on La Lampe Gras 206.
It was designed by the frenchman, Bernard-Albin Gras in 1921, and doesn't use neither screws nor welded joints in its basic form.
It was also famously used by Le Corbusier, Eileen Gray, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Emile Jacque Ruhlmann to name a few.

Lumière noire ...

Le poète
doit faire
un tableau noir
avec de la lumière.
-Olivier Py.

The poet must compose a black tableau with light. Oliver Py.

'Here light wants us to fall for an absurd story, would even like us to think it is History. A lighted chandelier retreats under a black tulle funereal shroud to make way for the sincere extinguished chandelier Gouthière designed for Queen Marie-Antoinette's guilded study at Versailles. On the back of the Louis XVI canape, two skeletons jokingly spook each other to prove that a good time can be had, be it deep in a tomb or in bygone days at the French court.'

I came across this exquisitely humourous image and text in the magazine Lumière which I picked up at last years Decorex London ... and I had to share it with you.

A little Monday inspiration.

Windswept ...

{this image from here}

We all know the exquisite de Gournay wallpaper and fabrics sit at the very top end of the decoration market, so I thought I'd start the year off by telling you how much in love I am with the Windswept Blossom wallpaper in blossom colourway on tarnished silver gilded paper with pearlescent antique finish, from their Japanese collection ...

These images definitely don't do the wallpaper justice!
